About

Hi, I’m Austin. Nice to meet you!

I like to find new approaches and turn elegant logic into beautiful things. I’m passionate about architecture, cities, and how technology affects society.

I grew up in Ohio, USA and studied architecture and urban design at Kent State University. Since then my focus has been on the problems and opportunities that architecture addresses, and developing a broad set of complementary skills, so I always have the right tools for the job.

In addition to architecture, I use maps and GIS, because a deep understanding of the existing context is essential to understand what a building can provide – and because maps and media influence how people use the city just as much as buildings do.

I also design digital interfaces, interior installations, and furniture, because design can have the most impact at direct points of contact with people.

I also work with data and analytics, because the systems-level view and the human perspective complement one another and enable us to design better environments.

Doing all of these things makes me better at each of them – a better designer, a better strategist, a better communicator, and a more creative thinker.

I’ve been living in Berlin since 2015. I speak English and German fluently. Outside of work, I make music with These Modern Architects, play baseball for the Berlin Flamingos, ride road bikes, and take pictures of my cats.
